Emerson's First Trip to Colorado!

Today's milestone Monday was one that I have been looking forward to since Emerson was born--our first trip to Colorado with him. It had a few rough moments, all of us were blessed with colds while there, but overall it was exactly what this tired and worn-down momma needed after a full quarter of teaching. Emerson didn't sleep as well as we had hoped, either due to his cold and coughing fits, the dry and cold air, or the altitude, but by the end of the trip we seemed to be more adjusted.

We spent the first weekend visiting tia and tio Irina and Brian in Denver, and our friends Lisa, Patrick, and their daughter Katelyn. We skied Keystone with them, which had some great snow conditions. Then we got a special visit from our Phoenix friends Jared and Bev, who were on a beer-tasting tour of Colorado microbreweries!

The following five days were spent in Steamboat at our friends, the Keller's, house. We got to meet Clara, their 9-month-old, and see how big Arthur, their 2.5-year-old, has gotten. We also skied the Boat and even had "mommy and daddy time"!

We finished off the fun with some time at Granddad Davis' and a visit from auntie Cassie as well- where we took on the Cala Inn trivia by storm and won in an incredible comeback victory.  We flew back on St. Patrick's day- with a free beverage courtesy of Southwest!

Here are our favorite photos from the 10-day trip.

Too busy Tuesday

The view in the mirror as we drove out of California...
So, I am posting the latest "milestone" a day late. Such is the life of an end-of-the-quarter AP teacher/mom/wife/housekeeper.

The latest adventure (although still a bit behind) was Emerson's first road trip to San Diego. This was both good and bad, as we had one of the roughest night of Emerson's life, but also got to introduce him to his cousin for the first time.

Some things were definitely different from the "old" road trip routine. First, we had to stop in Yuma not just for gas, but on the way home we also had to feed Emerson there. We did so after learning the hard way on the way out that when he gets hungry, and you are in the middle of nowhere, you pull off the freeway at the nearest exit and feed him in the car next to the Boarder Patrol jeep. Changing him there was even more fun with the freezing wind blowing into the car.  We also learned the hard way that trying to pack for the weekend on a Friday after work is not going to go very quickly. We rolled into town near midnight. This could have been part of the issue with Emerson's worst night yet.

Although Emerson slept well throughout most of the drive, the mountains and elevation change near San Diego were pretty rough.  Apparently, from what we can tell, the altitude change hurt his tiny baby ears and made his stomach all gassy. He was just starting to get a cold, which he still has, and perhaps the weird schedule and drive were the cause of him wailing like we'd never heard before nearly every hour for the entire night. He was also pretty chilly in the cooler San Diego air of his cousin's house, so this was all combined into my own personal hell for about 8 hours. We finally settled him down in the bed with us to keep him content and warm. Luckily, there was not a repeat performance the second night.

The good side of the trip was the beach time we got and the nice weather on what was one of the hottest February weekends in AZ history. We are really glad that we got to meet cousin Dylan and get away for a weekend.

Happy beach baby

Laying out in the sun (but only for a minute)

Dad- what is this place?!

I shall give you my intense stare for this picture...

Dad, what are you doing?

Oh! Getting my feet in the sand!

We also met a new friend- Emily and her baby Lucy!
So excited to play together when we are a little older!

Emerson's First Thanksgiving

After the crazy weekend we just had, it was a total treat today as Emerson decided to be Mr. Smiley and smiled at me numerous times today. That was just what this exhausted and worn-down mommy needed.

This weekend was a holiday to never forget. Not only was my entire family out for the  holiday, but Kyle's entire family was as well. We had 3 Thanksgivings, a bar day, a baby shower, and a first birthday party. The only thing we didn't get to do was shop! Emerson was a trooper, loving all the attention he was getting. He has a bit of a stuffy nose, so he wound up sleeping a lot, but he never got upset that he was being passed around continuously.

We loved that everyone got to meet him and it made for a really special first Turkey Day holiday for him (despite a Packer loss and mom and dad getting minimum sleep for 4 nights).

What is this thing???
My pet turkey makes gobble sounds!
