Feeling Nostalgic and a little Wistful

I already addressed this on my wedding blog, but I wanted to share more details about our weekend away in Prescott and reminisce a bit more about our wedding weekend, 1 year ago. In fact, a year ago today we were rushing to the Denver airport, getting on our flight to LA, and I still did not know we were headed to Tahiti! I am sure I'll post comparison pictures between then and now later this week, too! :)

It was only appropriate, given that Kyle and I have now attended 30 weddings over the course of our relationship, that we spend our first anniversary weekend in Prescott, AZ at our good friends Lindsay and Scott's wedding. I was excited for this weekend because we got to get away from the heat (yes, it is still insufferable for my pregnant body), and got to at least pretend to go on an October Break vacation.

Kyle got to take full advantage of my designated-driver status once again, and enjoyed his first night out on Whiskey Row on Friday, then Prescott Oktoberfest on Saturday (not to mention had a lot of fun at the wedding, as Lindsay's dad had brought some special single-barrel scotch, so Kyle partook in a taste testing). However, despite how unfair this may seem to any of you, I think things will settle on down from here, and I still had a blast despite my sober status. How could you not, with a fun crowd of people, dancing, and knowing that it was the beginning of my fall break?!

It was completely worth it when Kyle and I took all day Sunday to drive around the region in search of some fall color (a little early still). We went to the West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon and took a little hike. We drove through the red rocks of Sedona and enjoyed the sunset. Then we ate an awesome dinner, courtesy of a recommendation from our friends Audra and Ian, at Cucina Rustica. We are known for our "adventures", so hopefully we started a tradition that will continue on every anniversary weekend.

We also exchanged "paper" gifts- the tradition for the first anniversary. One, we bought tickets to go to the Lumineers concert; two, Kyle bought me tickets to the Lion King in 3 weeks at Gammage; and three, I got Kyle a framed picture of our wedding for his office. We also plan to finally order wedding photos to display in our home. I also splurged a bit and got Kyle a nice watch, since he got me jewelry for our wedding and I figured I owed him one.

Here are my favorite pictures from the wild weekends- one year ago and 2 days ago!

  1. Glad you had a great 1st wedding anniversary and your spring break is off to a good start. I miss Sedona and yes, the food is really good at Cucina Rustica! Def make sure to take a day just for yourself while you are on break.
